Moorhead, MN – On June 21, Absolute Marketing Group held its annual Chili Cook-Off and client appreciation party. This year we held a 70’s-themed, bowling shindig at All Star Bowl in Moorhead. There were high scores, High Life beers and high notes on the karaoke machine.

Our new Project Coordinator, Christina Marcil, did an excellent job of organizing the party with the help of our interns Alex Hauger and Kristen Oldyn. We had a wicked awesome time celebrating with our clients and crew.

Media Buyer, Grant “Juicebox” Christian, made a wager with Videographer, Scott Tostenrud, that whoever won the first game of bowling owed the other a pack of 100% juice boxes. They tied pin-for-pinin games one and two and, by one pin, Tostenrud squeezed out a victory in game three. Here’s Scott drinking in the glory:

Feelin’ the funk, Tostenrud and Writer, Tanya Weets, took turns spinning the tunes at the DJ booth, and singing with Graphic Designer, Katie Hamness – whose Spice Girls rendition of “Wannabe” will live on in our hearts forever.

All chili contestants were asked to name their pots and indicate the level of burn. The chilis were ranked by flavor and heat on our Spice-o-Meter:

1 Bowling Pin = Cheese-Eater – So chill, your mama could handle it.

2 Bowling Pins = Smokey, Dude – Like the slow simmer of a forest fire.

3 Bowling Pins = Got the Fevah! – Sweatin’ up a storm in my boogie shoes.

4 Bowling Pins = Blazin’ – Like the hot flames on my ‘stang.

5 Bowling Pins = Major Burn – That’s Sick!

The winner of the Gilded Ladle of Chili Supremecy trophy, by popular vote, was…drum roll please….our Media Buying intern, Kristen Oldyn, using her family recipe “Oldyn’s Beef Chunk Chili.” In a close second was our Art Director, Matt Anderson, with a flavorful “Caribbean Turk.”

Oldyn was asked to give a speech and sing along to “Stir That Funky Chili, Intern.” There may be video evidence, however, we have decided not to release that until our album comes out.

With groovy shoes and groovy scores, the night was a success! We want to thank all of our clients that came out and threw a few frames with us. Here’s to six years of marketing success and to you who make it all possible. Cheers!
